Camera Club of the Philippines as the recipient of the Spotlight Award
The Red Carpet Gala ceremony will be held at New York’s renowned Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, on Sunday, October 28, 2018.
“As we celebrate our 16th Lucie Awards, we have the opportunity to honor several of the world’s most deserving, and talented photographers,” remarked Lauren Wendle, President, Lucie Foundation. “This year we spotlight the Camera Club of the Philippines, the first of its kind in that region with an impressive history, plus the work of eight master photographers. We are excited to announce a new awards category, The Lucie Impact Award, created to acknowledge the impact of a photograph or a body of work in a given year. This year, John Moore will be the recipient of the inaugural 2018 Lucie Impact Award for his work on the immigration crisis and in particular for the incredible image of the crying girl, which became a symbol of the human cost of the United States immigration policy.”
Susan Baraz, Lucie Awards Co-Chair added, “For the 16th year, we are privileged to honor exceptional icons in our photo community at the Lucie Awards gala on October 28th. As photography itself is metamorphosing due to technical input, digital work, Instagram, etc., these outstanding Honorees provide a touchstone to an art that remains in its pure, unadulterated form. The Lucies is our reminder of the passion we hold for the still image in a
now, very un-stilled, present.”
The Lucie Awards also honors the year’s best photographic achievements of the industry by presenting seven Support Category Awards. These categories range from Book Publisher of the Year, to Fashion Layout of the Year and Curator/Exhibition of the Year. Recent winners have included Phaidon (for Generation Wealth: Lauren Greenfield,) Jeff L. Rosenheim and Maria Morris Hambourg (for Irving Penn: Centennial at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City) and AnOther Magazine (for The Full Story: Solange Knowles for AnOther Magazine A/W17 by Peter Lindbergh.) These Support Awards acknowledge the individuals and institutions that play a critical role in the crafting and promoting of images. The nominees will be announced shortly.
At this year’s gala, The International Photography Awards (IPA), the outstanding global competition, and sister effort of the Lucie Awards, will announce the winners of the International Photographer of the Year and the Discovery of the Year awards.
The Lucie Awards is the signature program of Lucie Foundation, the nonprofit charitable organization whose three-tiered mission is to honor master photographers, discover and cultivate emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography, worldwide.
