HOUSE OF LUCIE PRESENTS LUCIE AWARDS MASTER EXHIBITION
Exhibition of 120 Master Photographers opens for the Bangkok photo community on June 7th, 2017.
Bangkok, Thailand. (May 31st, 2017) – The House of Lucie, which opened its doors in November, 2016, now is ready to launch the long-awaited exhibition showcasing Masters of Photography, the Lucie Honorees. The official public opening on June 7th features master photographers recognized by The Lucie Awards between 2003 and 2016. These Lucie Honorees represent some of the most important photographers of the 20th century.
“Lucie” is derived from the Latin word “lux” meaning “light” and acknowledging the role that light plays in photography. Founder Hossein Farmani established the Lucie Awards and the Lucie Foundation in 2003, and just recently the House of Lucie in order to celebrate the 20th and 21st century pioneers of photography. The House of Lucie has developed this permanent collection of the work of the Lucie Honorees from 2003- 2016 in both group and solo exhibitions. The art space also promotes the work of International Photography Awards’ winners and aims to exhibit the works of local talent.
Representing the styles of fine art, documentary, portraiture, photojournalism, fashion, sports, and architectural photography, the master photographers participating in the exhibition include Douglas Kirkland, Roxanne Lowit, Greg Gorman, Mary Ellen Mark, Elliott Erwitt, Duane Michals, Albert Watson, Graham Nash, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, Victor Skrebneski, Melvin Sokolsky, Steve McCurry, Erwin Olaf, Lucien Clergue, Nick Ut, and 100 other world-renowned artists in photography. This exhibition was produced with the intention to make iconic photographs by these Lucie Honorees more accessible to aspiring photographers and photo enthusiasts around the world.
The Lucie Awards is the annual event honoring the greatest achievements in photography. The international photo community pays tribute to outstanding photographic movements at the Gala Awards ceremony held annually at Carnegie Hall in New York. October marks the 8th year since the formation of the Lucie Foundation, and the 15th year of The Lucie Awards. The House of Lucie Bangkok founded off of the Lucie Awards is just the first of many centers for photography Farmani intends to build across the globe, continuing his personal ambition to encourage international photographers to pursue their craft.
