Our sister effort, the International Photography Awards Annual Juried Competition is in full-swing and accepting submissions until May 31st. Who knows? You might be walking onstage at the Lucie Awards this October trying to remember all the people you need to thank. But seriously, get your work in front of our excellent pool of jurors by submitting to the 9th Annual International Photography Awards. And, we call IPA our sister-effort because your submission fees go directly towards supporting the Lucie Foundatioin programming. Submit by May 31st to avoid penalty fees. photoawards.com

THE THIRD INSTALLMENT OF MONTH OF PHOTOGRAPHY LOS ANGELES A GREAT SUCCESS.

Well, we did it. We reached over 10,000 individuals, presented over 70 exhibitions, showcased over 300 photographers, including insightful artist talks by legends like Melvin Sokolsky, Albert Watson and Richard Misrach. The illustrious Rob Haggart, the editor behind A Photo Editor moderated a wonderful panel about diversified marketing strategies and we held our first-even Benefit Event for our newly-expanded at-risk youth photo workshop SNAPSHOP! That fundraiser not only raised money and awareness for this great program, it was also incredibly stimulating with live entertainment provided by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his Quartetto Fantastico and a video DJ set by the famed PeanutButter Wolf (Founder, Stonesthrow Records). Selected photographic works by David Lynch, Gus van Sant, Amy Arbus and Tasya van Ree were featured. Thank you to our incredible list of partners and sponsors that included KCRW, The Los Angeles Times, PDN, The Macallan, Modern Postcard, Absolut Vodka, Virb, A&I Books, Smashbox, The Icon, Pier 59 Studios West and the list goes on. This is truly a collaborative effort between us and the photographic community of Los Angeles. Here's to 2012. In the meantime, visit mopla.org for more visuals and information.

LEARN ABOUT OUR YOUTH INITIATIVE - SNAPSHOP!

SNAPSHOP! was presented during the Month of Photography Los Angeles. Initially presented in 2009 as a one-Saturday workshop event for 20 underserved kids, this program has blossomed into a four-Saturday, multi-location, multi-studio, multi-track, hands-on workshop for 60 kids. The work created by the participants was presented as the official exhibition of MOPLA's closing night. Thank you to the coordinators, the instructors, and most importantly the students for their participation.

CALLING ALL PHOTO ASSISTANTS - SMASHBOX BRINGS BACK THE ORIGINAL SMASHBOX ASSISTANTS SHOW - SUBMIT BY JUNE 7, 2011.

Our friends at Smashbox Studios have been supporting LA photo assistants since 1995. This June, they are proud to bring the original photo assistant’s show back to their Culver City location. The month long exhibit will showcase the work of LA Photo Assistants and aspiring photographers.
