LUCIE FOUNDATION TO LAUNCH NEW MENTOR AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS.

Since the formation of the Lucie Foundation in October 2008, we've delivered and launched new programs which continue to support our three tiered mission:

- Honor Master Photographers (The Lucie Awards)
- Discover and Cultivate Emerging Talent (International Photography Awards, Fresh Fairs, Fresh Look, PhotoPlay, The Month of Photography Los Angeles)
- Promote the Appreciation of Photography (The Lucie Awards, MOPLA, Fresh Fairs)

Despite the current economic downtown, we are committed to and excited about fulfilling on our mission. The Foundation is launching the Lucie Mentors Program and the Lucie Scholarship Program, both of which will be accepting applications beginning August 15th and September 1st, respectively.

Here's a sneak peak into our new programs but full details will not be available until Friday, August 14th.

The Lucie Mentors Program

Photographers aren’t made, they’re developed. Introducing the Lucie Mentors Program, an ongoing mission to join vital and current professional photographers with emerging talent who will become photographys' next round of brightest stars.

E-pprentice pairs non-professional and established photographers for an ongoing 6-month mentorship of portfolio reviews, photography advice, and creative enrichment. Applications will be accepted from August 15th – October 1st, 2009.

Snapshop is a 6-week workshop where Los Angeles high school students will create a series of images as a narrative of their community. The workshop will culminate in both an exhibition and a book with their original vision intact. Activated in 2010.

PhotoPLAY brings together Los Angeles high school students with professional photographers in an all-day creativity and career workshop with opportunities to experiment and play with a variety of cameras, film, and styles. Presented during MOPLA - April 2010.

The Lucie Scholarship Program

The Lucie Scholarship Program consists of two grants (one $5,000 and one $2,500) to assist a professional photographer completing a long-term project and an emerging photographer developing a body of work and/or portfolio. Submissions will be accepted from September 1 to December 15, 2009. Grantees are announced in early February 2010.

This program is sponsored in part by the Maine Media Workshops who have generously donated one week scholarships to both grant winners.
