07 Aug RESPECTED PHOTOGRAPHER, ACTIVIST, SHAHIDUL ALAM HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND CHARGED IN BANGLADESH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

August 7, 2018 (Los Angeles, CA) – Renowned photographer, writer, curator and activist, Shahidul Alam has been arrested and charged for violating Bangladesh’s Information and Communication Technology Act and held in Bangladesh since Sunday, August 5, 2018. He was arrested for merely speaking his opinion about the ongoing student protests taking place in Bangladesh.This is an egregious violation of rights, a dangerous precedent and a grave threat to journalists everywhere. Not only do we demand the immediate release of Shahidul, we stand as a united front against these kinds of attacks to journalism wherever they arise in the world.

The Lucie Awards is bestowing the Humanitarian Award to the internationally acclaimed photographer, Shahidul Alam for his tireless work. Lucie Foundation, along with its Advisory Board, and colleagues from the international photography community, are anticipating Shadidul’s acceptance of this award in New York on October 28, 2018.
